Brownies
Brownies is desperate for volunteers!
Brownies has been active in East Linton since March 1926. But it is now in danger of closing due to a lack of adult volunteers.
Please don’t let Brownies close just before its 100th birthday!
Brownies is part of Girlguiding. We welcome all girls from 7 to 10 years old for non-stop fun, learning and adventure.
Brownies meet on Monday evenings during school term time in the Small Hall.
To register your daughter, please visit the Register your child page on the Girlguiding website. If your daughter is already in Rainbows, you do not need to register again.
We need Leaders
Leaders attend Brownies sessions each week (or most weeks) and help plan and deliver activities. We are volunteers, but can claim back expenses.
Volunteering as a Leader is very rewarding. You’ll get to have lots of incredible experiences, develop new skills, and meet other like-minded people along the way.
What’s needed to be a Leader?
• To be a Brownies Leader, you need to be reliable and responsible
• You need a sense of fun, and to enjoy the girls’ energy and enthusiasm (it’s often noisy!)
• You need to be adaptable and willing to think on your feet
• You need to register with Girlguiding, which involves a PVG check and some training (e.g. first aid and safeguarding)

Myth-buster
I can’t be a Brownies Leader, I’m not artistic or creative!
• Most of our activities are provided by Girlguiding with step-by-step instructions.
I can’t be a Brownies Leader, I don’t have a daughter in Girlguiding!
• All women over 18 can be a Leader. (Men can attend sessions as a Unit Helper, or take on roles behind the scenes).
I can’t be a Brownies Leader, I can’t commit to come every week!
• If we have enough Leaders, we can set up a rota.
I can’t be a Brownies Leader, I hate camping/can’t commit to overnights!
• We have a pool of other volunteers willing to join us overnight stays.
I can’t be a Brownies Leader, I’m not a Christian!
• Brownies welcomes people of all faiths and none, and there is no religious element to the programme
We need an Administrator
If you want to get involved, but can’t or don’t want to attend sessions, the Unit Administrator role might be for you.
This role could be split into two if we have enough volunteers: Administrator and Treasurer.
It requires a commitment of an average of 30 mins a week (sometimes more, sometimes none).
The Unit Administrator is responsible for:
• Communicating with parents
• Maintaining the database
• Distributing and collecting in forms
• Booking the Hall
• Checking the bank account and monitoring fee payments
• Paying invoices by online banking
• Compiling annual accounts
